Scots MEP Enjoys Kelso Veterans' Concert

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 30th Jun 2008

Elspeth Attwooll, Lib Dem MEP for Scotland, was in the Borders at the weekend, where she attended the Veterans' Concert in Kelso's Tait Hall on Friday night and a local Farmers' Market on the Saturday morning. She was joined at the market by Euan Robson, the former Liberal Democrat MSP for Roxburgh and Berwickshire and current number two on the Scottish Lib Dem list for the 2009 European Parliament elections.

After her visit she said:

"The concert was really impressive, with the talent of young people locally providing a fitting context for tributes to veterans of all generations. The contributions from soldiers back from service in Iraq were especially moving. I am very grateful to Scottish Borders Council for suggesting that I attend.

The next day I went to the Farmers' Market, with its excellent produce - some of which my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed consuming over the rest of the weekend".

Euan Robson said:

"I was delighted to accompany Elspeth to the Farmers' Market in my home town of Kelso. The Market is doing very well and is a great attraction for locals and visitors alike.

"Elspeth takes a very great interest in the Borders, pressing the case for us in Brussels and Strasbourg. She has not only regularly taken up agricultural and fisheries concerns but has visited key developments such as the Heart of Hawick project, the new harbour and port facilities in Eyemouth and the Springwood Park showground in Kelso."
